I miss my Ancestry.co.uk subscription

I keep saying "when my next check comes in" but for the last 3 checks that I've intended to use some of, to restart my subscription, something else has come up requiring those $$$ and I don't foresee me being able to restart it for at least another month! I miss it so much. I can access my trees but it's difficult to find new info and not be able to get anything after the original search results. Knowing that there are documents that may help me move further along, it's frustrating to see the basic info but not be able to access the complete document or record to see if that particular piece of information matches that particular person in my tree, or not. I am trying to be patient, but I have so many things that just pop up into my mind and I think "oh I need to look into that" and then I can't really explore whatever it is.

I do love doing my family history though, and filling out the characters who came before me.

So, as I wait to be able to restart my subscription, I shall have to be patient, simply use my other resources to do as much as I can, and make notes of everything that I need to search for as soon as I have it again.

Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine

Today, I have been poring over some online issues of this brilliant magazine, that's affiliated with the tv show. I took out a subscription to it, and have been enjoying immersing myself in the articles, on and off, all day.

As well as this month's issue, I got the 3 previous (because of the topics they covered) but the November issue has had my interest the most, because of its content on the First World War and Essex, plus historic maps.

In the UK, the print copy is available, but since I'm in the US, I opted for the digital version.

There's so much info each month. I am going to be doing a lot of digging, that's for sure!

Alice Poyser death

My last surviving great aunt, my nan's youngest sister, died June 18th, I found out this past weekend, in talking to my mum. I had tried to contact her a few times over the past 15 or so years, but to no avail. I was told by a distant cousin in the Poyser family that she was kind of reclusive in her old age and - despite having contributed to "Canning Town Voices" - she wasn't interested in talking to family members about her childhood, and life, in Canning Town.

She was 98, so had lived a good long life.

I remember visiting her, when I was little. At first she had a black cocker spaniel named Tess, who was old. I was afraid of dogs, having been already hurt as a toddler, and Tess sensed it and would growl at me. I always thought she had a "squeaky" voice.

When Tess died, she got a golden cocker spaniel puppy and (at the time) I was terrified of him. Now, I see it was just exuberance, but when we would walk in, he would whizz around the room, bouncing off the walls and furniture, barking like crazy. I would cling to my nan for safety.

She is buried in with her parents. Her interment was the day after her death, 19th June, and the funeral arrangements were taken care of by Cribbs Funerals Directors.

She is buried in the East London Cemetery, in grave #8378-60
